Description
In Uzbekistan, a child is often perceived not as an individual, but as a “draft” for a future adult. Many parents consider violence a normal method of upbringing: “It’s my child — if I want, I’ll hit them, if I want, I’ll insult them.” We heard these words in families where real cases of domestic violence were recorded. Beatings, shouting, and humiliation have become part of everyday life.
Places where children should receive education, care, and support have instead turned into centers of violence. Where they should be protected, children encounter pain and fear. Violence has become an invisible burden that children carry silently, without the right to speak.
We decided to give this burden a form. That’s how a short film was born, based on three real stories. At its core was a symbol: a heavy load representing the pain and fear a child bears in the very places where they should have been loved and protected.
For the first time, the film gave children a voice: “I have the right to a childhood without violence.” “I have the right to a safe life.” “I have the right to be heard.” These words did not remain on screen. They went beyond cinema — into conferences, exhibitions, and theaters.
Journalists, bloggers, and adults faced the problem directly for the first time. The symbol of the heavy burden became a public sign — a reminder that children deserve care, not pain.
The film sparked a powerful emotional response from millions of Uzbeks. People shared personal stories and left hundreds of comments: “I cried watching this film, let’s protect our children,” “If even one child’s life is saved, it was not in vain.” Media and opinion leaders amplified the discussion — the total reach was 24,738,000, with 158 media mentions. A subject long silenced became part of the national conversation.
The film was also selected for Vimeo Staff Picks, marking its significance far beyond Uzbekistan. The campaign reached tens of thousands of viewers and gave children something they had never had before — the right to a voice. And most importantly, it reminded adults: childhood should not be a time of pain. It should be a time of love, protection, and dreams.
